GUEST DIRECTORY

Hotel Guest Directory

The Management and Staff of The Elms, would like to extend our warmest welcome to you. We will do our best to make you feel comfortable and at home during your stay.

This directory has been especially prepared to acquaint you with the many services available at the hotel, as week as in the surrounding community.

Oxford is a rich mixture of small town charm and conveniently located business community. Music, art, drama, sports, crafts and antiques play an important role in the daily life of a town of historic homes, bordered by farmland and framed by rolling hills.

We hope your stay with us in the Oxford area is a pleasant one and that you will come see us again in the future.

Sincerely,

The Management & Staff

Safety

Fire Safety

This hotel is protected by fire prevention devices and alarm systems. Please make yourself aware of the emergency procedures listed here to further enhance your safety and security.
YOUR BEST DEFENSE AGAINST A FIRE IS TO PLAN AHEAD

  • First... Find two exits nearest your room. Be sure they are unlocked and unblocked.
  • Then....Count doors between your room and exits so that you will have a reference point if smoky.
  • If fire is in your room, get out and close the door. Once out, pull the nearest fire alarm and then report the fire.
  • If the fire is not in your room, leave if you can. First feel your door. If it is cool, open it slowly and go to the nearest exit. Crawl in smoke, fresh air will be at the floor. Take your key so you can go back if you cannot use your exits.

If your door is hot, do not open it. Your room may be the safest place to be. Seal all cracks with wet towels. Shut off fans and air conditioner. Signal at your window.
Call the fire department and wait to be rescued.
When you hear an alarm, act, don't investigate!

Security Procedures

  • Double Locks and Chains - For additional security, utilize the dead bolt provided on your door upon entering and push in the button on the lock. This will prevent the door from being opened by a regular room key. As an additional precaution, please secure the door safety chain.
  • Admittance - Do not admit persons to your room without first making identification.
If there is any doubt about the person's identity, please contact the Front Desk.
  • Keys - Please safeguard your key. Be sure to leave it with the Front Desk upon your departure. Do not leave your key in your room or in the door. Do not give your key to others.

Tornado Safety

Tornado Watch means that severe weather is possible. Keep alert! Listen to the radio or television for national weather service bulletins. Prepare to take shelter in the event of a tornado warning.
Tornado Warning means that a tornado has been detected by radar or reported by trained spotters. If it is in your area, take shelter immediately. You must act quickly when a tornado warning is issued. Stay calm, but move to safety fast.
Wherever you are, always...

  • Get low to the ground - crouch or lie flat.
  • Protect your head - get in the bathtub and cover up with a blanket or pillow.
  • Take cover close to the center of the building with no outside walls - on the lowest floor and in a confined space.
  • Stay away from windows - broken glass is the most dangerous kind of flying debris.
  • Stay clear of - doors, outside walls, heavy objects, corridors, long span rooms or auditoriums.

Local television stations are primary sources of local news and weather information.
Please refer to the TV Listing in your room.

About The Elms

The Elms Hotel was originally a guest house created in 1919 by the joining of two houses at 9 and 11 South Main Street and operated until 1966. The old Elms Hotel structure was razed in 1988 to construct the existing two story building just north of the new Elms Hotel. The newly constructed Elms Hotel has been carefully designed to compliment historic Uptown Oxford and to carry on The Elms Hotel Legacy with the luxury of today's amenities.

The Elms Hotel sign on display in the lobby stood on South Main Street for approximately fifty years. Its name paid tribute to the magnificent elms which filled the campus of Miami University and arched over High Street until the late 1940's when more than 1800 local elms fell victim to the "Dutch Elm" disease.

The hotel is in close proximity to Miami University attractions such as Yager Stadium, McKie Field/Hayden Park, Millett Hall, Goggin Ice Arena, Hall Auditorium, King Library, Shriver Center, Center for the Performing Arts, Marcum Center and the McGuffey Museum. All are within walking distance (8 blocks or less) from the hotel.

Located within close proximity of Oxford is the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (60 miles), Dayton International Airport (50 miles), Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, The Great American Ballpark (Cincinnati Reds), Paul Brown Stadium (Cincinnati Bengals), Earlham College, Skydive Wayne County, Hueston Woods State Park, Hueston Woods Golf Course, and Indian Ridge Golf Course.
